Policy: building on the circular economy

Waste management companies have an important role to play in the circular economy. In the Policy section of the 2016 Sustainability Report we describe the role we see for ourselves in the circular economy and the policy instruments we have to shape that vision and to earn your trust.

Leading the field in sustainable waste management

Indaver's core activity is the management and treatment of industrial and household waste in specialist facilities. Our customers range from industrial multinationals to local and regional public authorities, and we are active in almost the whole of Europe. In addition we lead the field in sustainable waste management. This sustainable business practice is based on three pillars: the recovery of high-quality materials using reliable technologies; attention to cost; and monitoring all of our activities to keep environmental and safety risks to a minimum.

Internal policy framework

Our Cooperation Agreement ensures that our operational approach and service provision is the same in every region. It contains the principles for continuous improvement of our sustainability results. To support our vision we have drawn up a number of internal policies. Consequently, we have a Charter for Sustainable Purchasing for Suppliers. Our HR policy strives for sustainable employment. We have an extensive framework for ethical business conduct through our company code and our 10 Codes of Good Practice.

Sustainability Goals

We agree with the many people who want to make and keep the planet habitable for everyone. So Indaver is also a part of the global partnership that is being shaped by the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this edition of the Sustainability Report you will have the first opportunity to see the eight Sustainability Development Goals that Indaver has set itself. These are indicated using icons.

Treated Waste Products

Indaver's core activity is the management and treatment of industrial and household waste in specialist facilities. Our client base is particularly varied, ranging from industrial multinationals to local and regional public authorities, and we are active in almost the whole of Europe. In 2016, Indaver was managing 5 million tonnes of waste of which 3.5 million tonnes was  treated in Indaver's own facilities.

Synergy

Our customers are already noticing the advantages of the synergies between Indaver and its new shareholder Katoen Natie. Both companies specialise in a bespoke total services provision for a large number of customers. For example, in 2016, by working together, Indaver and Katoen Natie Tank Operations came up with an efficient logistics solution for the removal of hazardous liquid waste from their Irish customers. This service was extended in 2017.

Worthy of your trust

You expect Indaver to find continually better and safer solutions for sustainable waste management. This retains your faith in our organisation. Our integrated and standardised management systems help us to monitor quality, the environment and safety and to guarantee the reliability and traceability of our processes. By continuously evaluating our own performances, we can improve our approach systematically. With Lean Six Sigma (LSS) we are improving the quality of our service provision proactively.
