Partnerships: cooperating to make a difference
Knowledge Consortia
To achieve the circular economy we have to completely change the way we use raw materials. This influences every phase of the production and consumption process. So we all - governments, companies, research organisations and citizens - have a responsibility in the transition to this circular economy. As a knowledge-based company Indaver is well-placed to help develop the sustainable technology and business models needed to be able to achieve the circular economy. We are therefore working with knowledge centres and research organisations. We work in consortia to initiate and implement innovative projects.
ECLUSE: the advantages of a partnership
A great example of one such partnership is the ECLUSE project in the Waasland port (Belgium), which won the port of Antwerp's 2016 Sustainability Award. An important factor for the project's success is the unique collaboration between Indaver/SLECO, the companies that buy the heating, the companies who provide the land, the infrastructure and financing, and the Flemish government. ECLUSE fits our vision on sustainability perfectly because it offers economic advantages (competitive prices that establish the industry in the port of Antwerp), ecological advantages (fewer CO2 emissions) and societal advantages; and because it creates the energy required for the circular economy to be able to grow.
Partners in the waste sector
Even in the waste sector itself, we are working together on an international level, to share knowledge on and experience in sustainable waste management, to gain insight into the developments in our sector and to provide information to the European institutions. By so doing we hope to raise the standard of sustainable waste management. This concerns partners such as Eurits, the European organisation for the responsible incineration of special waste streams, ISWA (International Solid Waste Association) and CEWEP, the confederation of European waste-to-energy facilities.
Knowledge sharing
If we are to give the circular economy a chance, we can't continue to sit on information and knowledge, we must share it. Indaver therefore shares its expertise in a number of different ways. Last year, we held open days at various sites for the local community. We gave presentations at conferences and had stands at trade fairs.
Neighbourhood Councils
We also view the people and businesses in the surrounding area near to our facilities as our partners. In 2016, Indaver celebrated the 25th anniversary of its first neighbourhood council, for the Antwerp site. We use the neighbourhood council to keep our neighbours up to date with our activities, projects and permit applications or renewals and to inform them about incidents. But we also take inspiration from the questions and comments made by our neighbours.
Changing the behaviour of customers and citizens
Finally, we also support social initiatives in which citizens and organisations encourage a change in behaviour. We maintain an open and constructive dialogue with our customers. We organise co-creation workshops to gain insight into the customer's context, so that we can offer them a solution that best fulfils their needs.
